A tweed jacket either looks like it came from a charity rail or like it was chosen on purpose. The leather-look trim is what puts this one firmly in the second camp.

The details that make it work

The herringbone tweed is cut to a fitted, waist-defining shape. It has a band collar instead of a lapel, so it sits neatly over a shirt collar rather than fighting with it. Contrast leather-look trim outlines the collar, front placket, cuffs and all four pockets. That trim is what gives it a vintage, equestrian feel instead of reading as a plain office blazer. It fastens with a single-breasted row of antique brass buttons from collar to hem. The two chest patch pockets and two lower flap pockets are all real pockets, not decoration.

Where it fits in

Over a silk blouse and tailored trousers for the office, where it does the job of a blazer without looking like one. Or over a fitted roll-neck and straight-leg jeans at the weekend, for brunch, a walk around town, or an autumn evening when a full coat would be too much.
